project team

ESA’s Technical Officer for the Ocean Colour CCI project, Dr Peter Regner, will be working with an international team brought together under the leadership of Dr Shubha Sathyendranath from Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML, UK) who will lead the scientific programme and will be supported by John Swinton (VEGA, UK) on project management aspects. The consortium comprises three teams with the EO Science Team focusing on algorithm definition and ECV production prototyping, the Climate Research Group will provide independent peer-review analysis of the results and the System Engineering Team will deliver analysis on the ECV data processing and future production aspects.


The EO Science Team comprises Steve Groom, Icarus Allen and Prof Trevor Platt FRS (PML,UK), Dr Carsten Brockmann and Norman Fomferra (Brockmann Consult, Germany), Dr Roland Doerffer and Dr Hajo Krasemann (GKSS, Germany), Dr François Steinmetz and Dr Pierre-Yves Deschamps (HYGEOS, France), Dr Frédéric Mélin and Dr Mark Dowell (JRC, Italy), Dr Zhongping Lee (Mississippi State University, USA), Dr Gene Feldman and Dr Bryan Franz (NASA, USA), Dr Lia Santoleri (CNR, Italy), Dr Menghua Wang (NOAA, USA), Dr Taka Hirata (Hokkaido University, Japan) and Dr Emmanuel Devred (Dalhousie University, Canada).  The Climate Research Group team comprises of Prof Corinne Le Quéré (University of East Anglia, UK), Icarus Allen (PML, UK), Prof Hans Von Storch (GKSS, Germany), Dr Laurent  Bertino (NERSC, Norway), Dr Taka Hirata (Hokkaido University, Japan) and Dr Watson Gregg (NASA, USA). The System Engineering Team is lead by Norman Fomferra (BC, Germany) and supported by Dr Mike Grant (PML) and John Swinton (VEGA).
